Dormant Seeds

“So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth” 1 Corinthians 3:7, NASB.

Farming in hard soil can be discouraging. In the same way, sowing the Gospel in hard spiritual soil is often discouraging. For many years my wife and I have shared the Good News among a people group that remains unreceptive. We have talked to so many, but so few actually show responsiveness. Recently, I heard a story that encouraged us greatly.

A believer from the people group we work with was sharing truth with another man from the same group. As they talked, the man was amazingly responsive. The believer learned that we had talked to this man and given him a book filled with truth more than a year ago! He had been reading and thinking all this time, and now he’s open to hear more!

This man’s openness confirmed to us that the message itself has power from above. The seeds may lie dormant for a long time, but God is at work, unseen. With that reminder, we will continue cultivating, sowing and watering the hard ground.

Pray that:

God’s ambassadors will not grow weary in proclaiming the Good News to this people group.

God will bless the ministry of local believers as they reach out to their own people.

The spiritual soil will noticeably improve among this people group.
