Waves and Witness

“‘And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory’” Luke 21:27, NASB.

God just wants to use us. He’s called each one of His children to be a witness to our neighbors, to our friends and our family and to all lost people everywhere. It was my great privilege to be used as a witness during a short-term trip to a Last Frontier area of the Pacific Rim.

One afternoon we went sightseeing. Eventually our team made its way to the beach. Our tour guide was sitting off by himself, giving us time to look around. I went over and sat with him with the intention of sharing the Good News.

I showed him an Evangi-cube and asked, through a translator, if I could share it with him. We sat next to each other, knees touching, as I told the old, old story. I could see that he was perking up as I shared more of the story. Then at times he seemed to act uninterested, but he kept coming back to what I was sharing. As I finished telling the Gospel, I asked him to tell the story back to me in his language.

As we finished I asked, “Do you understand the story?” That opened up the conversation and we proceeded to talk about the fact that we all have sin, but there is an answer to that sin.

I’ll never forget the experience as this father of three, with tears in his eyes, confessed to his Father in Heaven that he was a sinner. With the waves crashing up against the shore he sat there on the beach and asked Jesus to forgive him of his sins. This man, who used to be a complete stranger, had become my eternal brother. The barriers of language, culture and religion were not too big for God to overcome.

If I had chosen not to obey the Lord when He called me to come on this short-term trip, then I would have lost out on this incredible blessing. If you get the opportunity to go on a short-term trip, you should go! If you don’t, you’ll never know what God might have done in you and through you.

Pray that:

God will establish this new believer and connect him with other believers in the area.

His entire family will be drawn to faith as they observe his transformed life.

Volunteers to the Pacific Rim will faithfully and boldly share the Gospel.
