Casting Away Idols

“For in that day every man will cast away his silver idols and his gold idols, which your hands have made as a sin” Isaiah 31:7, NASB.

Before becoming a follower of the Most High God, Pon* held a high position in a Buddhist temple. He was responsible for arranging most of the ceremonies. He also enthusiastically collected idols. He had more than 50 idols in his room. He believed that these statues had power to help him. He prayed and made offerings to these idols every day.

Then Pon came across an article in a local newspaper written by a local pastor. He began attending the church where this pastor served. As he heard the stories of the Bible, Pon became convinced that Jesus Christ was the One who knew the right path not only for this life but also for the next. He prayed with the pastor at the end of a worship service and committed his life to follow Jesus.

The pastor was concerned about Pon. He knew about Pon’s idols and thought that Pon would have difficulty giving them up. But the Holy Spirit was already at work in Pon’s life. As Pon read the Bible he became convinced that idols had no place in his new relationship with Jesus. On his own he decided to destroy them.

Pon continues to grow in his faith, and is an encouragement to his pastor and church.

*Name changed for the privacy of the local believer.

Pray that:

God will bless Pon and help him to be a bold witness to his people.

Pon’s church will grow and multiply.

Pon’s people will turn away from the spiritual stronghold of idol worship.
