August 2008 Pacific Rim Prayer Emphasis
The Mbojo of Indonesia

“Draw near, O nations, to hear; and listen, O peoples! Let the earth and all it contains hear, and the world and all that springs from it” Isaiah 34:1, NASB.

The Mbojo people live on the island of Sumbawa in the Indonesian state of Nusa Tenggara Barat. The majority of the 730,000 Mbojo are Muslims, with fewer than 300 Christians. While the Mbojo claim to be Muslims, in reality their daily life is influenced by traditional spirit worship and animistic practices.

Over 70 years ago the Gospel was received with joy by the Mbojo in an isolated mountain area. Today about 90 percent of the people in that area call themselves Christian, but many do not really understand the Gospel. Few have shared their faith with the majority Muslim population.

The main area of the Mbojo people has a reputation for being fanatical. Most tourists avoid the area out of fear. In reality, the Mbojo people are friendly toward anyone who takes time to try to understand their culture and values.

Pray that:

Christian Mbojo will share the Gospel in a way that their Muslim neighbors will hear, understand and receive the gift of life.

The Jesus film and New Testament, which are available in the languages of the Mbojo, will be distributed and will bear fruit.

Entire Mbojo households will come to faith and that a network of house churches will be established throughout Sumbawa.

Christian doctors will come to provide medical care, and that the people will not rely on “dukuns” (Islamic witch doctors) for healing.

God will give dreams and visions to the Mbojo that will lead them to put their faith in Jesus. When they have dreams, ask that they encounter mature Christians who can help them interpret and understand the dreams correctly.

God will reveal His role for you in reaching the Mbojo for His glory.

God will call laborers to work among the Mbojo.
