“I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth.” 1 Corinthians 3:6, NASB. He had bright, penetrating eyes, an angular bearded face, and a wide and welcoming smile. He managed the public toilet at a busy market area, and although he did not know us personally he counted us as friends and included us in his world. We were not the first group of foreigners to come and share with him about Jesus. It was a tremendous open door. Many volunteer teams had come into this market area to talk to people about the Savior. One group had met Abe* and talked with him for over an hour. As soon as he saw us he said, “Come, sit down. You are my friends.” He introduced us to his best friends who operated the shops on either side of the toilet. When we offered to pay to use the facilities he smiled and said, “I think today that since you are my friends that foreigners are free.” Abe’s English was very good, and we found out that he was certified to teach English. We also found out that he was a teacher in his religion. For another hour we shared with Abe about Jesus and about a life of faith. Abe was very interested in what we shared, but he was not ready to follow Jesus. He did accept a Gospel of Luke, and a Gospel tract. He promised to read the material and think more about the things we had shared with him. It was exciting to be part of God drawing Abe to Himself. One volunteer team came and planted. Our team watered the Gospel seed. Perhaps the next team will get to see a spiritual harvest. On that day we all will rejoice at God who caused the growth in Abe’s life! *Name changed for security reasons. Pray that: Abe will come to saving faith. Abe will become a teacher of God’s word and a powerful witness of the Gospel to his people. Abe will lead a group of believers in his community.
