Mom’s Passion

“And it came about in due time, after Hannah had conceived, that she gave birth to a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, ‘Because I have asked him of the LORD.’” 1 Samuel 1:20, NASB.

My mom and dad came to faith in Jesus from a mixed religious background. They first heard the Gospel during my sister’s baptism service. From the day my parents accepted Jesus they involved themselves in the local church.

My father held a government position that took much of his time, but he still used his gardening skills to beautify the church grounds. My mother was the one who passionately followed the LORD. She was a children’s Sunday School teacher. And from the day she was saved she prayed every day that God would allow at least one of her children to serve Him as a full-time minister.

For years her plea to God was part of my spiritual formation, and God heard her prayers. Today, two of my brothers serve as Worship Ministers in local churches, and I work as a bi-vocational evangelist. Without a doubt my passion and calling had its roots in the prayers and passion of my mother. It is a wonderful heritage to have a mother who really prays.

Pray that:

Believers from this people group will have a passion to pray for God to use them and their children for His glory.

Parents from this people group will be faithful to lift their children to the LORD.

This worker will pass on the heritage of prayer that he received from his mother to his own children.
