Shining Through
“And so we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.” 2 Peter 1:19, NASB. Despite the strong cultural and religious opposition to Christian beliefs in Northern Thailand, God has handpicked a small group of believers to be lights shining through the darkness of deception. One of those beacons is Meui, a 28 year old woman who feels a strong calling to work among the villages of her own Mien people. The Mien are an animistic hill tribe who live in constant fear and bondage to evil spirits. They live in a cycle of ancestor worship and fear. Work among these people is extremely slow and arduous. “At times it is very discouraging,” says Mieu. Her desire to see her people free of spiritual imprisonment and experience the refreshing unending love of Jesus Christ drives her on. “Please pray for my people,” says Mieu. “They are trapped in a belief system where they must pay for every spiritual favor. They cannot understand why Jesus would die for them and it is free!” Pray that: The Mien, who have been deceived and harassed for so long, will receive the free gift of God’s love. The chains of spiritual oppression will break and they will find freedom in Christ. Workers like Mieu will find encouragement to continue shining through the darkness for the Mien.
