New Lamb
“The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’” John 1:29, NASB Updated. The news about Penny* is doubly joyous for me. Of course joy always results when God calls a sinner from death to life. God did that for Penny. For me, the second joy was seeing my daughters, April and Nichol, have the joy of leading one of their friends to know Jesus. Penny is an 11 year old neighborhood girl who often plays at our house. On Sundays we tell Bible stories to the children who come to play. Penny is often one of the children who attends our impromptu Sunday School. April and Nichol were helping me share the story of Abraham and the substitute lamb sacrificed in the place of Isaac. I said, “Penny, God provided a substitute lamb for you so that you don’t have to die for your sins. That substitute lamb is Jesus. Would you like to receive God’s lamb as your personal substitute sacrifice for your sins?” She smiled a radiant smile and simply said, “Yes, I do!” God is so good to allow us to see and experience the miraculous workings of His Spirit in Penny’s life. Her decision is likely to be met with resistance from her family. I am trusting that the same powerful God who called Penny into His Kingdom will protect her heart and mind come what may. *Names changed for security reasons. Pray that: God will grow Penny into a young woman of faith who will be an effective witness to her unbelieving family and community. April and Nichol will grow in zeal and wisdom as they share Jesus with their friends in the neighborhood. The homes of believers in Penny’s city will be beacons of hope that are always open for seeking people to hear God’s truth. Pacific Rim is a region of the International Mission Board, SBC.
