We are all Human?
"Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." Philippians 2:4 NIV.
Mud, cars, boats, bodies and other debris left the business district of one town in a complete shambles. Business owners were hard pressed to clean out their shops after the waves receded. One Acehnese Indonesian man commented, "I don’t know why we did it, but we actually helped a Chinese man clean out his shop. We even helped him remove several dead bodies."
The disbelief in his voice and facial expression gave way to a thoughtful pause. Then he said, "I guess we’re all human beings, and we should help each other."
After the tsunami most of the Chinese Indonesians living in the Aceh province fled to Medan. They left because they knew that their best hope for help was from other Chinese communities or from foreigners. History reminded them that they could not count on help from their government or the majority people.
Pray that:
In the aftermath of the tsunami, God would break down racial biases that separate the people from each other.
The Chinese Indonesians would be able to return to their home communities and would be welcomed and accepted by the majority people.
