Will He See
“And on that day the deaf shall hear words of a book, And out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind shall see.” Isaiah 29:18, NASB. Whenever I read or think about the story of the blind man being healed by Jesus in John 9, it reminds me of my friend Al*. Al has a degenerative eye disease. We have spent many nights drinking coffee, playing dominoes, and talking about life. Nevertheless, Al doesn’t understand or accept the Truth of Christ. He holds to a self-help philosophy, like Oprah meets Tony Robins, mixed with Islam! This worldview has left him empty and unfulfilled. Last week, Al sent me a text-message by cell-phone that said, “I am restless and want to share it with you. Where are you, buddy? In this situation you might be the safest secret deposit I have.” God is really working on Al’s heart and though I am glad he feels he can confide in me, I know that he will never find true peace until he embraces Christ. My desire is that through our relationship the aroma of Christ will reach to his weary soul (2 Corinthians 2:14-17) and that he would find peace with God through Jesus (Romans 5:1). I eagerly look forward to the day when Al proclaims, just like the blind man, “…though I was blind, now I see (John 9:25, NASB).” *Names changed for security reasons. Pray that: Al will see the truth, and find abiding peace with God through Jesus Christ. Believers in the Pacific Rim will not lose heart in faithfully planting Gospel seeds. God will prepare the hearts of Al’s family and friends so that after he is saved he will be able to lead them to Christ. Pacific Rim is a region of the International Mission Board, SBC.
