Helping the Witchdoctor

“There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.” Deuteronomy 18:10-11, NASB.

In many Indonesian people groups, there are occult healers who also deal in curses. They are called dukuns or witchdoctors. One pastor gained a reputation for having spiritual power over evil spirits. There was a dukun who had gotten on the wrong side of several other dukuns. This dukun’s house had been cursed multiple times by the other witchdoctors, and the demonic activity was intense. The dukun’s family heard so many scary noises at night that they had vacated the house. They had been sleeping in the fields for over six months for fear of the noises they had heard.

The dukun went to Pastor Al* to see if he could make the house safe. Pastor Al went to the house, but he did not hear or see any demonic activity. He explained to the dukun that Jesus was more powerful than any other spirit. He prayed over the house in Jesus’ name. The dukun and his family moved back into the house and were no longer bothered by the noises. The entire family prayed to receive Jesus when they saw that He was powerful enough to drive out the noises that had so terrified them.

It was not long before the dukun fell away from following Jesus. Pastor Al was fairly certain that this man still dabbled with black magic. But two of his children and his wife remain faithful believers to this day. One of his children is a full-time Christian worker in Jakarta!

Pray that:

Believers in Last Frontier areas of Pacific Rim will be confident in their authority over evil spirits.

The Holy Spirit will continue to save people out of occult involvements.
