We Did You Wrong
“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” Luke 6:36, NIV. We were driving along slowly when a young man and his passenger crashed through the back window of our van. The two were both drunk and had been driving too fast. I got out of the van and was horrified to see them both lying on the ground, bloody and delirious. A crowd quickly gathered. Some bystanders advised the young men, both of whom were in their twenties, to leave before I pressed charges. Others told me to get going so that I would not have any hassles. But I could not leave or let them leave. Instead, I helped them both into the van, and brought them to an emergency room near the accident. When the guys realized all that was going on, one of them, crying, asked me, “Why would you help us and touch us when we were all bloody? After all, we did you wrong?” It was a perfect opportunity to explain about the love of Christ. I think that moment will stick with them and the hospital staff. The driver has called me just about every day since the accident, and may be joining a home-group Bible study that a friend of mine leads. Pray that: Christians in the Pacific Rim will not run away from problems, but will lovingly show compassion even in difficult circumstances. The two men who had grace extended to them in the accident will receive the grace of God unto salvation. God will continue to add to the number of believers among the unreached people group from which the men involved in the accident are a part. Pacific Rim is a region of the International Mission Board, SBC.
