Standing on a Good Foundation

“Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, ‘The Lord knows those who are His.’” 2 Timothy 2:19, NASB.

Caleb* had driven his old Land Rover over many questionable bridges during his years of exploring remote jungle areas on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. He and a colleague came to a bridge that was basically two logs across a river. The logs were covered with mud, and Caleb decided that he didn’t want to risk it. A few clicks further down the river he came to a much more substantial looking bridge.

Still, as a precaution, he had his passenger get out in case the bridge gave way. He slowly inched onto the bridge. It seemed to be good. About midway across Caleb noticed the eyes of his colleague getting big. He stopped, which was a good thing. The bridge collapsed leaving only the two beams that where under the cement foundations. By God’s grace those where the beams that the Land Rovers tires happened to be on when the bridge fell. There he sat, mid way across with a ten foot drop off into the river on either side!

Caleb thought about his situation and recognized a spiritual truth. The whole world can collapse and fall apart around you, but if you are on a firm foundation you’ll be able to stand! Caleb thanked God for His protection, yet again, and for the firm foundation He has provided through His Son.

Pray that:

Travel mercy and protection will be granted to believers exploring unreached areas of the Pacific Rim.

The peoples of Sumatra will find the same firm foundation in Christ that Caleb has.
