The Deliverer

“Give heed to my cry, for I am brought very low; deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me.” Psalm 142:6, NASB.

As one of the first followers of Jesus from among her people, Amy’s* harshest critics are often within her own family. Her brother-in-law, Eddie, was relentless in his opposition to Amy and her faith. God intervened in this situation by answering prayer during the delivery of Eddie’s baby.

The pregnancy was a difficult one. Labor began a month early, and the mother’s blood pressure was very high. Amy, along with other believers from the village, gathered to pray for Amy’s sister and the baby. They prayed for many hours, and ultimately God heard them and allowed the baby to be born safely. Both the mother and the baby were healthy.

After seeing God’s power in the delivery of his child, Eddie has become open to hearing more about Amy’s faith. He often asks Amy and other believers to pray for him about many challenges in his life. Amy rejoices that God not only answers prayer, but demonstrates His goodness even to those who oppose His work. While Eddie has not become a follower yet, it is nothing short of a miracle that he has moved from being a critic to being a seeker. Amy smiles as she sees afresh the many ways that her God is a great Deliverer!

Eddie will come to faith in Jesus.

God will continue to answer prayer for healing in a way that many critics will become seekers after Him.
