You Just Might Make It!
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31, NKJV. We settled into a city in a Last Frontier Buddhist country. It was our first assignment, and we had two small children. The environment was spiritually oppressive. There was a temple fifteen feet from the house that we had rented. Beating drums sounded out night and day to call up the spirits. A demon possessed man lived in our neighborhood. One day he screamed for 14 hours with no pause. It was unlike anything we had ever encountered in the United States. When my husband told me that he needed to go on a two week survey trip, I trusted that God would take care of us. A co-worker who lived in the same compound said, “You’ll never make it by yourself. Why don’t you move in with us while your husband is away?” I told her, “Thank you for the offer, and I’ll let you know if I need you. God will take care of us.” She accepted my statement with raised eyebrows, as if to say, “We’ll see about that.” One night, shortly after Doug had left on his trip, the drums banged on late into the night. As I sat in the bedroom feeding my baby at 2 a.m., I felt an evil presence outside the house. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. I had the feeling that something was pressing in on me, and I realized that it was a frontal assault by the enemy. I prayed out loud, and claimed the shed blood of Jesus. I sang Great is Thy Faithfulness as praise to God. I learned that indeed, “all I hath needed, Thy hand hath provided!” And as quickly as the attack started, it was finished. I went back to my work and slept soundly that night. The next day I shared with our co-worker about the evil presence and how my prayers and praise to God had sent it packing. She looked at me with new respect and said, “You just might make it after all!” Pray that: Last Frontier workers in the Pacific Rim will understand and exercise their full authority in Christ over enemy attacks. Prayers and praises to God will be offered in cities and among peoples who have long been trapped in spiritual darkness. The people of this Last Frontier Buddhist nation will turn to faith in Christ in large numbers. Pacific Rim is a region of the International Mission Board, SBC.
