Behind Closed Doors
“But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will repay you.” Matthew 6:6, NASB. As one of the first Christians in his Lua village, in Northern Thailand, Udom often has to explain his new Christian ways to his neighbors. One of these strange new ways is called prayer. “When I pray I close the door to my house,” said Udom. This closed door policy was not how Udom used to pray. “When I prayed with my door open people didn’t understand,” explained Udom. “They would call out my name or come up to me and shake me like I was asleep.” The misunderstandings and interruptions were such a distraction that Udom started closing his door whenever he wanted to pray. “My neighbors often ask me why I close my door,” said Udom. “I always tell them that I’m talking to God.” Pray that: God will answer Udom’s prayer for a church to be started in his village. The Lua will be caused to look favorably on Christian ways, and many Lua will come to saving faith in Christ. Udom will grow in the grace and knowledge of God.
