Family Pressures
“And a man's enemies will be the members of his household.” Matthew 10:36, NASB. Dominic* had heard about Jesus for many years. He initially came to study English with David, our guard at the student center. One day Dominic told me that there used to be a church that met in his home, but his extended family hated Jesus. They had taken away the Bibles, and threatened to harm his family if they didn’t stop studying Jesus. When I announced a Friday night Bible study for new Christians in our home, Dominic jumped at the invitation. Recently, he shared that after the second week of coming to the Bible study, he realized he believed the stories about Jesus, but had never repented and received Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He is so excited to have Jesus as his Lord now. He shared in the group how he prayed for something for the first time, and God answered his prayer. He has loved being able to fellowship with other Christians and really grow in his walk with the Lord. Dominic is away from his family as a student in the university. Considering the reaction of his parents to his former involvement with following Jesus, it is likely that he will have to face persecution for his new faith. *Name changed for security reasons. Pray that: The Holy Spirit will create a change of heart within Dominic’s family, and they will also become followers of Jesus. Dominic will continue to grow in his faith and be strengthened as he faces persecution. Dominic will again be used by the Lord to establish the church among his people.
