Broken Jade
“So now, I will break his yoke bar from upon you, and I will tear off your shackles.” Nahum 1:13, NAS. Jan’s* parents immigrated to Indonesia from China. Both of them followed traditional Confucian beliefs along with ancestor worship. Amulets and rituals were an important part of religious practice in Jan’s childhood home. As a baby Jan’s mother gave her a special jade necklace. Jan grew up registered with the government as a Christian. It wasn’t until after college that Jan worked for a believer who was able to share what it meant to be a follower of Jesus. At a conference that she was invited to attend by her employer, the Lord called Jan to follow Jesus. She was wearing her jade necklace when she prayed the sinner’s prayer, and the jade stone immediately split in two! Jan believes the Lord did this to help her make a clean break from the animistic worship rituals she grew up with. She keeps that necklace to remind her that Jesus broke the stone and freed her to serve Him alone! *Name changed for security reasons. Pray that: Believers coming out of animistic backgrounds will understand the freedom they have in Jesus and will make a clean break from anything less than serving Him alone. Jan’s single-hearted devotion to Christ will lead many to repentance and salvation. Jan’s experience with the occult will be used to set many people free in Christ.
