All Glory and Power

“A lion has roared! Who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken! Who can but prophesy?” Amos 3:8, NAS.

Henry* was a bi-vocational village pastor. Western believers offered periodic Bible training where he would learn in depth about a book of the Bible, alternating between the New and Old Testament. The most recent of these studies was on the prophetic book of Amos. The study brought deep conviction to Henry’s heart. In Amos the people of God were deeply compromised, and in contrast the prophet was telling of the coming Messiah to whom all glory and power belonged. Henry knew that the people of God in his village were in the same situation, and the message of this book was important.

When Henry returned to the village he immediately began sharing what he had learned from the message of Amos. One of the families in his church began bringing a friend. Listening to the stories this man kept asking about the power and authority of the Messiah. These questions gave Henry a chance to share about Jesus and the Gospel.

After three sessions of hearing God’s message from Amos this seeker decided to renounce his former way of living and follow the Messiah to whom all power and honor belongs. Henry later learned that this man was an occult healer or witchdoctor. In Henry’s culture the question of power and honor is important. Witchdoctors are influential in the community because they are seen as people of spiritual power. Yet, under the conviction of the Holy Spirit, this witchdoctor recognized the superior power and glory of Christ!

*Name changed for security reasons.

Pray that:

Many witchdoctors in Henry’s province will recognize the spiritual power and glory of Jesus, and will turn to Him with saving faith.

These converted healers will be a powerful witness of Jesus, the ultimate healer of the soul.

The believers in Henry’s village will experience the same deep conviction over the message of Amos and will repent and live in holiness and truth.
