Jesus Stays
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever.” Hebrews 13:8, NAS. Siriwan comes from a strong Chinese Buddhist background. In her home there is a room dedicated to Buddhist idols that is larger than her bedroom. She always felt loved by her family growing up. Whenever she failed or felt discouraged, her family was always there for her. Her father was always a big supporter, even when she decided to follow Jesus. Siriwan first heard the Gospel from a Christian boyfriend. God opened her heart to receive Christ. Although outwardly she was successful with good schooling and a good job, inwardly she felt empty. She learned that it is Jesus who fills her heart with meaning. Her relationship with the young man cooled off, and eventually he left. While she is sad that the relationship didn’t work out, she is thankful that he introduced her to Jesus. She said, “He may be gone, but Jesus stays!” Currently Siriwan is working on her seminary education and working with youth at a local church. Many of the youth with whom she works are first generation Christian. She often has to challenge them to have the courage to be upfront with their parents about their decision to follow Jesus. While she realizes that many of these youth will not receive a warm reception from their family for their decision to follow Jesus, she also realizes that these parents will likely not hear the Gospel if their children don’t have the courage to share. She also knows that Jesus will stay with them no matter how their parents respond. Pray that: God will bless Siriwan as she studies at seminary and works in the church. God will go before the youth so that many of their parents will respond to the Gospel that they share with them. Pacific Rim is a region of the International Mission Board, SBC.
