God Hates Wimps
“The LORD is gracious and merciful; slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.” Psalms 145:8, NAS. Among Bill’s* people it is normal to hold a grudge and to do everything in your power to get even when a person wrongs you. Because of this cultural norm, it is not uncommon for families and entire villages to war with each other for years on end. Bill thinks the unwillingness to forgive is rooted in the religious teachings of his people. It is believed that when you are wronged you must get revenge, or God will be displeased with you for being weak. The opposite idea is also taught. If you are good at hitting back and making people pay for the wrongs they do to you, then God is pleased and will bless you. Unfortunately this belief has resulted in generations of hatred and violence. When Bill became a follower of Jesus, he learned that God is merciful and quick to forgive. He learned that God blesses the humble and the peacemakers, not the proud and the warlike. He also knows that this radically different message must be shown in a transformed life before his people will be able to accept its truth. Bill prays that his life will illustrate this truth and break this generational bondage to revenge and hate that holds his people. *Name changed for security reasons. Pray that: God will break the bondage to revenge and hate that holds Bill’s people. God will use Bill and many other believers from among his people to illustrate the power of love and forgiveness.
