Praying for Caregivers
“Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you; but I will instruct you in the good and right way.” 1 Samuel 12:23, NAS. My first year on the field, God opened an opportunity for me to teach English to nurses at one of Bangkok’s government hospitals. As a cancer survivor, I knew how important a nurse’s job is in caring for the sick. At the end of every class I asked for the chance to pray for the nurses. I reminded them how important their work is to their patients. One nurse, named June, was my most faithful student. She always came to class and paid close attention to everything I taught. After one class I forgot to pray. June raised her hand. I called on her, and she said, “Mrs. Wanda, you forgot to pray for us!” What a clear reminder of the power of prayer, and the appreciation that people have when they know that you pray for them. God willing, I’ll not forget to pray for June! Pray that: God will convict many medical workers in Bangkok of their need of salvation found in Jesus alone. Wanda and other believers in Bangkok will have wisdom in reaching out with the Gospel to medical workers. Pacific Rim is a region of the International Mission Board, SBC.
