Pacific Rim November 2006 Prayer Emphasis:
“Brethren, my heart's desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. For not knowing about God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.” Romans 10:1-3, NAS. The over one million MAG* are a Muslim people group with a long history of misunderstanding and prejudice that has often erupted into violence with the government and the dominant people groups who live around them. This violence has gone both ways, which has only deepened the conflict between the MAG and their neighbors. The MAG feel they are the rightful owners of the island on which they live. They see themselves as a people under siege – unconquered and proud. This siege mentality has left them undereducated and impoverished. Only 18% complete high school, and over 28% have no formal education. The MAG literacy rate is 66% lower than non-Muslim people groups living in the same area. Most MAG make their living from subsistence farming, fishing, and day labor. They are the poorest of the poor. The MAG people consider themselves purely devoted to Islam, but their practice is heavily mixed with pre-Islamic animistic beliefs. Interestingly the MAG are not unresponsive to the Gospel, rather the Christians who live near them are afraid and ill-equipped to share. But God is at work. Recently He has begun to reveal Himself in miraculous ways to the MAG; through dreams, visions, healings, and the power of His word. He has also begun to touch the hearts of believers, calling them to reach out and show His love to the MAG. As a result there is now a small group of MAG who have come to faith and are seeking ways to bring the Good News to their people. *The name and location of this people group have been changed or omitted for security reasons. Pray that: God will reveal people of peace from among the MAG. Believers working among the MAG will have discernment, strength, and perseverance as they seek to bridge the barriers that keep the MAG from receiving the Gospel. The few MAG believers will pray fervently, walk worthily, worship joyfully, witness wisely and widely, and multiply groups incessantly. The Bible translation into the MAG language will be completed with speed and accuracy. Any persecution will only result in deepened faith and resolve of believers called to reach the MAG. God will continue to work in miraculous ways to bring the MAG to the Light. Thousands of God called intercessors will pray daily for the MAG until the church is established.
