Amazed

“And they were all amazed at the greatness of God.” Luke 9:43, NAS.

Amy never finished elementary school, but after the Lord saved her, He opened the door for her to teach preschool in her village. “I’m so grateful that God is using me,” said Amy. “I have such a great love for the children, and it has opened so many doors for me to share with their parents.”

Many of the children were often sick because of poor personal hygiene. Amy incorporates lessons on personal hygiene in her preschool curriculum, and the rates of illnesses in her village have dramatically decreased. Her people are often discriminated against by the majority people on their island. Because most of the people in her village are like her, with little education, they don’t know how to prepare their children to qualify for public schooling. Amy has found out the steps to take to complete the documentation for the children, so now many of them are being accepted into public schools for kindergarten.

Because she is the village teacher, Amy has also been able to have Bible study twice monthly with many of the moms in her village. To keep interest high, Amy teaches basic healthcare, along with telling stories from the Gospel of Luke. While many of the moms just come to learn more about healthcare, a growing number are showing interest in learning more about the Bible.

Amy also teaches literacy to adults in the village. “You can’t imagine how much joy it gives a person just to be able to write their name,” said Amy. “This gives them confidence to go into a video store and get a card so they can rent a movie. When they couldn’t sign their name, they were too embarrassed to do that.”

For the past seven years Amy has worked in her village to make it a better place to live. “God has put a hunger in the hearts of my people,” said Amy. “They want to meet and hear God’s word.”

*Name changed for security.

Pray that:

Many moms in Amy’s village will be drawn to faith as they hear the Bible stories twice a month.

God will continue to put that hunger in the hearts of the people in Amy’s village to hear His word and accept His Gospel.
