Goats and Babies

“But the Lord answered and said to her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.’”  Luke 10:41-42, NAS.

Jenny* has worked at the training farm for over fourteen years. She heads up the animal husbandry program, so she has always had goats around her house. When her daughter was just a baby, the goats posed a unique challenge. In the middle of the night she would hear a cry, but she had to stop and ask, “Is that my daughter, or a goat?”

In a similar way Christian workers are often distracted from the main thing by the cries of the urgent. Like Jenny, these workers need to learn how to pause and listen with discernment to hear if it is God’s voice, or just another goat. God’s servants shouldn’t loose sleep over a goat, but at the same time they must not neglect God’s baby!

*Name changed for security reasons.

Pray that:

Jenny and other Christian workers in her area will have discernment to hear God’s voice and distinguish His call from all the goats that seek to eat at their time and energy.

All those who come to learn about animals and farming will also be open to learn about Jesus and the way to heaven.
