Fed to the Dogs

“Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.” Psalm 22:16, NIV.

Shortly after becoming a follower of Jesus Billy* was approached by several leaders from his village. They surrounded him and accused him of being an idol worshiper. They threatened to take his dead body, wrap it in cellophane, and feed it to the dogs. Billy considered their threats and thought about what his life was like before following Jesus. He decided that he’d rather face the threats of the leaders than leave the source of abiding peace that he had found.

The rest of the village also considered what Billy’s life had been like before he became a follower of Jesus. They knew how he used to get into fights and that he had done terrible things while living in the capital city. Yet now he is a gentle and giving person who shows love and exudes peace. They decided that they like the new Billy better, and consider him to be a spiritual teacher. Many go to him to seek advice on how to live.

*Name changed for security reasons.

Pray that:

Believers like Billy will have courage in the face of threats and will live such good lives that people are drawn to learn more about God through them.

The leaders of Billy’s village will be convicted by the Holy Spirit, and will come to know Jesus as Billy does.
