Prayer requests from Around the Rim: October 2006 Download a .pdf version. Download the PacRim October prayer calendar. During October the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” or Eid ul-Fitr, ends Ramadan, one of the most important Islamic celebrations. It is a great time of feasting and celebrating with family and friends. Pray that thousands of Muslims will end this Ramadan with feasting and celebration because they are assured that God the Father has redeemed them through His Son and they are now His children. In a Southeast Asian city, a young couple visited a pastor and his wife. The husband was a believer, but his wife was involved in fortune telling and held in spiritual darkness. As the pastor shared the Good News, the young lady wailed and cried uncontrollably. Appearing to be out of touch with her surroundings, she kept crying loudly. When asked to speak the name of Jesus, the young lady would stutter and stammer but could not do it. After two hours of reading the Scripture and praying, the lady spoke the name of Jesus and was immediately transformed. Now quiet and listening, she gave her life to Christ and desires to follow Him. Pray for her to grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord. M, a religious leader, expressed much gratitude to the workers for the great care and medical treatment he had received. He knew this had saved his life, so he returned to his home village with joy. Days later, the workers visited with M and two other religious leaders at the temple in his village. The leaders had read all the materials given to M and asked for more. They had never read anything like this in all their lives. The entire Bible was given to these seekers. Ask that these seekers will believe what they read and will give their lives to Christ. Pray that they can then lead others to faith in Jesus. Praise God two Japanese Christians are opening their home for weekly worship, although their spouses are not yet believers. Ask God to use both the verbal and lifestyle witness of the believing spouses, as well as the biography one of them is reading about a Buddhist priest’s conversion to Christianity and call to the pastorate, to cause them to open their hearts to Him as well. For the past year, a young man named Dar has been having dreams of the blood. He is now involved in a Book study and is asking many probing questions in an effort to find and understand the Truth. Ask that the Holy Spirit would open the eyes of his heart to see clearly and that he would begin walking in obedience to Christ and leading others to do likewise. Continue to pray for relief efforts to those who are displaced from the many natural and man-made disasters in PacRim. Pray for lasting results from two commissioning services held recently in the Philippines. Gingoog Baptist Church commissioned Edison and Loida R., who are national Strategy Coordinators assigned to the island of Camiguin. Civoleg Baptist Church is only one-year-old, but it is already actively involved in outreach and several church planting projects. They also commissioned a few Higaonon believers. Pray for a fruitful ministry as the new workers labor in difficult environments. Quezon Province, Philippines, population of more than 1.6 million people, is less than 1.5% Evangelical. The province has one urbanized city, Lucena; 41 towns; and 1,248 barangays (geographical area). Pray for wisdom and grace for a Filipino team as they lead a new church in Lucena. Pray that God will raise up laborers for the harvest field from the twenty believers who are participating in T4T (Training for Trainers) in the town of Lopez. Pray that God will raise up new leaders to replace the ones who have returned to China from a young church in Australia. Ask Him to provide permanent leaders, who can actually reside for a long time in Australia. Book study and is asking many probing questions in an effort to find and understand the Truth.
