Rainy Day Temptation
“Let my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew, as raindrops on the tender herb, and as showers on the grass.” Deuteronomy 32:2, NKJV. The rigors of study and the press of life can make any excuse to skip a ministry outing to work with slum children look good. One Saturday afternoon the wind blew and rain started to fall as the students gathered at the student center in Bangkok, Thailand. While many were tempted to call the children’s program off one 34-year-old seminary student huddled everyone together. “Before we call anything off,” she said calmly. “Why don’t we ask if the Lord will stop the rain?” They all bowed their heads and one by one offered prayers asking God to stop the rain and allow them to minister to the children. By the time everyone had prayed the rain not only stopped but the clouds even started to break up. She smiled at her team triumphantly as they set off from the student center. “It’s a spiritual battle that even takes the form of rain storms to keep us from loving our community,” she said, “But when we pray not even the rain can stop us!” Pray that: Believers will not allow the temptations of being too busy or not having ideal circumstances to keep them from doing good in Christ’s Name. Before any planned ministry in Bangkok is called off that God will be consulted in prayer first. Pacific Rim is a region of the International Mission Board, SBC.
