They Didn’t Deliver

“Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” Matthew 5:37, NIV.

Many floating villages exist along the rivers and lakes of Cambodia. Silas* chartered a boat to go out to one such village and visit the people who live on the water. It turns out that this village had already been visited by another Christian group several months earlier.

One of the men from the village shared, “The Christians promised us rice, but they never gave it to us. What are you going to give us?”

Silas was broken hearted. The only impression this village of 50 plus families has of Jesus is that his followers make promises and then don’t follow through. It reminded him of the awesome responsibility that he has as an Ambassador of Jesus. The first impression of entire communities rests on how he behaves in each new village he enters. By God’s grace Silas wants to show complete integrity so that the villagers will know that he keeps his promises. .

*Name changed for security reasons.

Pray that:

Christians will be wise in how they enter new communities where Christ is not known.

Followers of Jesus will be wise in making offers of help so as to avoid dependency.

Christians will deliver on the things they promise so that the people will see the integrity of God reflected in the lives of His children.
