The Triple Cross
“For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.” Colossians 1:19-20, NAS. Her Hindu husband beat her, stole from her, cheated on her, and deserted her in an endless cycle of betrayal. She had been to every god she knew and paid for every enchantment to bring her husband back. She recalls going to one Chinese temple because a man there had a reputation as a powerful spirit medium. For $100 it was said he could cast a spell that would make her husband come back. She was desperate, so she paid him the money. After paying the temple she was led into a room. The medium tossed shells onto the ground. Each time he tossed them they formed into a cross. This happened three times. The medium shook his head. He said, “Three times it comes up ‘X.’ Give up on your husband, he is never coming back.” She almost took the medium’s advice, but later her husband met Jesus. At first she could not believe that he had changed. But he did come back to her a changed man. Today she and her husband are leading several Indian churches in Malaysia. She now sees that the three crosses had a far different meaning than what the spirit medium saw. It was the work done by Jesus on the cross of Calvary that finally brought her husband back to her! Pray that: Jesus will hear the cry of Hindu women stuck in abusive relationships and will gloriously save their husbands. Hindu men and women will turn to the cross for answers instead of going to the spirit mediums. Pacific Rim is a region of the International Mission Board, SBC.
