Experience My Goodness
“How great is Thy goodness, which Thou hast stored up for those who fear Thee, which Thou hast wrought for those who take refuge in Thee, before the sons of men!” Psalm 31:19, NAS Her husband had accepted a foreign religion. He was a Christian, but she remained skeptical. The beliefs of these Christians were different from the animistic practices of her tribe and of the Muslim beliefs of the dominate culture around her. She had seen a movie about the life of Jesus, but still she was unsure. Early one morning she woke with a start. She sat up in bed at around 3 a.m., but the hut was lit with a bright, otherworldly light. She saw a shining figure that identified himself as Jesus. He told her that He was the one from the cross. He showed her the wounds in his hands. Jesus said, “Children who follow me will experience goodness.” The word “goodness” in her language carried the meaning of both blessings and moral uprightness. Then He repeated a call three times, “Follow me. Follow me. Follow me.” Then the light vanished and it was dark again. She stayed awake until morning. As soon as it was light she shared her vision with her husband and all her neighbors. While she is still unsure what following Jesus will mean to her life, she has decided that she will follow Him. Pray that: This woman will experience the “goodness” that Jesus promised and others will see the transformation and want to know about the Jesus who called to her from the light. Believers making efforts to disciple new believers in remote villages like this woman’s will have wisdom and endurance. Pacific Rim is a region of the International Mission Board, SBC.
