Giant Slayer

“The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” 1 Samuel 17:37, NIV.

Bob* is a high school student and a fairly new follower of Jesus. When he came to know Christ he wanted to share the gospel with all his friends and family, but he quickly learned that they did not see what he saw in Jesus.

“When I shared with my friend, he stopped talking to me for months,” said Bob. “I shared with my family, and they got mad at me. They told me that I could believe whatever I wanted but that I could not share Christianity with them.”

Fear is one factor with which Bob struggles as he tries to share the gospel with anyone else. One of Bob’s friends is involved in prostitution, gangs, and drugs. Bob wants to share Christ with him, but he is afraid because this friend has a violent streak.

One Bible story that encourages Bob to carry on and continue to witness is of young David and the giant, Goliath. Bob said, “David trusted God, and even though everyone else was afraid of Goliath, David knew that God would deliver Goliath into his hand. I think that maybe God can do the same thing with my fear.”

*Name changed for security reasons.

Pray that:

Bob will be able to trust God with his fears, just as David trusted God to help him slay Goliath.

Young believers in the Pacific Rim will be strengthened and encouraged in the face of persecution from family and friends.
