Eyes to See

“Light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.” Ecclesiastes 11:7, NIV.

Johnny* had worked as an optometrist in the United States before he moved to Southeast Asia to share the love of Christ with an unreached people group. He conducts hundreds of eye screening clinics every year. With the help of volunteer teams, over 6,500 people have had their eyes screened and received corrective lenses, if needed .

“I don’t know why vision screening isn’t more widely used in reaching into unreached communities,” said Johnny. “There is little cost to do a general screening. There is little risk of causing damage through misdiagnosis or over dosage. And when you help people get the prescription glasses they need, the result is instant. Their faces just light up when they can see well.” Reading glasses for these clinics cost 50 cents each.

At the clinics, local believers help Johnny with registration and general screenings. These believers also share Bible stories with those waiting to be seen. Scripture portions are given to every person who gets their eyes checked.

As the stories are shared and the scripture portions are given, believers look to see who shows a high interest. Those high interest people are invited to take part in a group to hear more Bible stories. A lot of gospel sowing happens through follow up after the clinics.

“It is our prayer at every clinic that as we help our people to see, God will open their eyes to see the truth that can set them free for eternity,” said Johnny.

Pray that:

Johnny’s people will see the truth in Christ and will respond with saving faith.

Eye clinics will continue to open up new villages to the gospel.
