Can God be Human?
“Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death- even death on a cross!” Philippians 2:6-8, NIV. Terry*, at the age of 35, is already an influential business owner. He is educated and well versed in the teachings of Islam. He has also heard about other beliefs. For example, he had heard about Jesus - Isa Almasih - as the Savior. He knows a lot about the miracles of Isa from the Surrah in the Quran, but he doesn’t know much about the miracles of Muhammad. He likes to start spiritual conversations, though most times it turns into a comparative dialogue between Christianity and Islam. The biggest difficulty that Terry has with Christianity is grasping how Jesus could be God. In a recent conversation a believer named Jess said to Terry, “If God is sovereign, that means He can do anything.” This means that the Word could have become flesh, as we believe. *Names have been changed for security reasons. Pray that: Terry will understand that God became human and was known as Jesus Christ. Terry will put his faith in Jesus. Terry will put his education, influence, and energy into building God’s Kingdom among his people. Pacific Rim is a region of the International Mission Board, SBC.
