The Ultimate Jesus

“I do all this to spread the Good News, and in doing so I enjoy its blessings.” 1 Corinthians 9:23, NLT.

As I sit on the floor with 13 local youth studying the Bible, I can’t help but smile when I think how it all began. We wanted to reach young people with a sport that didn’t require a lot of equipment and was inexpensive to start. After consulting several people who have been involved in sports evangelism, we settled on Ultimate Frisbee. This past summer, we hosted 17 Frisbee players from all over the southeastern United States. They conducted clinics and spent time playing Frisbee with local kids while sharing their faith.

The Bible study group is made up of four Christians (one of whom accepted Jesus while playing Frisbee), three Muslims, and six Buddhists. The Christians are excited about being discipled, and the others are pumped to finally hear the gospel truth that they have been wondering about. While the government in this Pacific Rim nation is opposed to evangelism, they are wide open to sports programs that engage youth in a positive way!

Who would have thought that a little plastic disk would open doors to share Jesus with hundreds of youth? But come to think of it, the ultimate for Jesus was to find common ground with people that would allow Him to share the love of His Father. And that’s what Ultimate Frisbee is all about for us!

Pray that:

All the young people in this Bible study will embrace Christ as Savior and that a church will start as a result.

Volunteers will come to share Christ in the Pacific Rim through sports, agriculture, business, medical or any other activity that will earn a hearing for the gospel.
