Happiness in Your Hands

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” 1 Corinthians 13:1, NIV.

Silas*, one of Pacific Rim’s  Last Frontier personnel, discovered the joys of language learning as he tried to show off his knowledge of language and culture one day. Unfortunately, it all got mixed up. The government was encouraging family planning, and posters had been set up all over the capital city that read, “Happiness is in your hands; one wife and two children.”

During his language lesson, Silas, who has one wife and two children, proudly announced in his best local dialect, “Happiness is in my hands, two wives and one child!” Everyone had a good laugh, and Silas learned that happiness may be in his hands, but fluency in the local language would require a little more work!

*Name changed for security reasons.

Pray that:

Pacific Rim personnel would not lose heart in the pursuit of learning the heart language of their people group.

Cross cultural Christians will maintain the ability to laugh at themselves as they learn their host culture.
