Pacific Rim Prayer Empahsis for April 2006 - The Hre of Vietnam

More than 110,000 Hre live in Vietnam, mostly in the western part of the Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh provinces.  Some small communities can also be found in Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces. 

Most Hre are animists, depending on spirits and ancestors for protection, good harvests, peace, and wealth. They sacrifice water buffalo, chickens, and other animals to appease the spirits, and they pray regularly to deceased ancestors and genies.

Their current literacy rate is less than 25%. As a result, the Bible continues to be fairly inaccessible to the majority of the population.

The Hre are very musical people. They love to compose verses and songs, and they play a wide range of musical instruments.  Many of their songs are about love and spiritual relationships.

Pray that:

Gospel materials will be produced in a format suitable to the oral culture of the Hre people.

Songs will be written in the Hre style that points them to the Savior.

Workers will be called out to take the gospel to the Hre.

Many Hre people will become followers of Jesus and will form into discipleship groups.

Grace will be given to Christian workers in the eyes of government authorities so that they can work among this unreached group.

God will tear down spiritual strongholds that may keep the Hre from considering the gospel.

God will raise up thousands of intercessors to faithfully pray for the salvation of the Hre people.
