Pacific Rim Prayer Requests: March 15 to 31, 2006 PRAYER REQUESTS: March 1 was Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. During the Lenten season in the Philippines, Cebuanos and other Filipino people groups are more sensitive to spiritual matters. Many of the fast food restaurants add special fish items to their menus for those who are observing Lent. Movies centering on Christ and His life are very popular this time of year. During this time of reflection the Catholic Church will have special retreat times. Pray that Filipinos who are truly seeking to hear the Lord will respond when He speaks to them. As the first Free Greater Tokyo volunteer groups arrive in Japan this month to pray and evangelize the lost, pray for good health, clear minds, and a commitment to pray down the spiritual strongholds despite the prevailing darkness and oppression. Ask God to provide “divine appointments” with Japanese in whose hearts He’s already at work. Pray for sensitivity in sharing the Gospel and for God to use each volunteer mightily. Mr. F, the clinic director, gave approval for another mobile medical clinic in his village. His wife will teach the local language to workers and his home was offered as a place for semester students. Pray for a good relationship with Mr. F and his family and positive results from the medical clinics. More than five years of hard work will, by the grace of God, begin bearing fruit later this year, when a new Bible (NT and Psalms) designed for the local Muslim community rolls off the press. Pray for wisdom in the final decisions of a few key terms, seeking to be faithful to the original text, while accurately communicating its meaning to the intended audience. Y, a seeker who joined a small group to learn more about Christianity, trusted Christ at her second meeting. K watched the children’s version of the “Jesus Film” and prayed to receive Christ a few nights later. Several new believers offered to host a home worship soon after meeting an IMB Tokyo unit. As you praise God for these, pray they will witness boldly and grow spiritually. Clark Mason and James and Martha Chun, members of the Jeju Team in South Korea recently experienced an unexpected open door for ministry during an early morning prayer walk along the seashore. Seeing more than 20 women divers ready to go into the sea, they were grateful to meet Mr. Hong, their supervisor. Pray that they will have an opportunity to witness to Mr. Hong and that he will become a connection to minister and witness to these women divers. Pray the Holy Spirit will bring to mind Scripture verses and hymns or choruses of praise for persecuted believers in their great trials. Thank the Lord that He is their joy and peace whatever circumstances come. Pray that nonbelievers will see this joy and peace and long to know personally the Provider of these spiritual blessings.
