Blankets from Jesus

“I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:36, NIV.

In balmy northeastern Thailand, there is rarely a need for a blanket. The poor, rural Kui people wear cool, cotton clothes. Their houses are set up to let in every breeze to cool things down. So, when a cold weather pattern descended recently, the people were unprepared. Granted the weather only dipped into the 50s, but when you are used to 90s to 100s year round, 50 degrees IS freezing!

Families built bon-fires and drank warm drinks. They kept walking and moving around in an attempt to stay warm. IMB missionaries, Mike and Amy Bowles saw this unusual weather as an opportunity to show the love of Jesus. They purchased blankets and gave them out to people in their community.

The blankets were given in the Name of Jesus. It didn’t take long before all of the blankets were gone. Soon the village was a bright collage of brightly colored blankets wrapped around the people. Isn’t it amazing that God loved the Kui people so much that He sent Mike and Amy half way around the world so that Jesus could give these people blankets to warm their bodies and the gospel to free their souls?

Pray that:

God will give missionaries eyes to see the opportunities around them so that they may show the love of Jesus in practical ways, like giving out blankets.

The blankets will show Jesus’ love for the Kui in a practical way and the gospel will show Jesus’ love for them in an eternal way.
