Always my Colonel
“Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12, NIV. Shortly after arriving in the Philippines from the U.S., I moved into a temporary house in a new area while awaiting assignment. I didn’t know anyone, and I was a long way from home. When I fell ill one of my new neighbors, a retired Colonel in the Philippine Air Force, visited me. He had spent the morning baking a loaf of bread for me because he had heard that I was not feeling well. I had recently been through a study called Lead Like Jesus, and Colonel Metal’s example of gentle servanthood reminded me of the way Jesus led. I will soon be moving to another city, but I’ll not forget my neighbor’s kindness. He will always be my Colonel. I hope that I’ll be able to imitate his example of Christ-like leadership in my new ministry. Pray that: God will help the personnel of Pacific Rim to see Jesus in others and reflect Jesus in their own lives. Missionaries starting their term of service will be blessed with trustworthy local friends who will serve as cultural guides as they adapt to their new home and people. Pacific Rim is a region of the International Mission Board, SBC.
