May 2008 Pacific Rim Prayer Emphasis:
The Bicol Region of the Philippines

“The people who walk in darkness will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them.” Isaiah 9:2, NASB.

Pray for the Bicol region, the largest unreached area in the Philippines. The Bicol region is one of 16 Filipino regions occupying the Bicol peninsula at the southern end of Luzon. This region also includes portions of some neighboring islands. At the latest census, the population in Bicol was 4.8 million. Less than 2% of this population has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Read more...

Eyes of Faith – Have you ever wondered if your prayers make a difference in mission work? If so, read this story of direct and immediate response to prayer in the ministry of one Last Frontier worker…

Working for Christians – In her journey to faith God used Christian employers to share the Good News through words and actions. Now she is trying to follow this example in her work with her family, friends and community in Northern Thailand…

Just Saved – He heard the Gospel and responded as a child, but it was decades later before he met believers who are now helping him grow in the faith…

Falls to His Knees – In a dream he fell to his knees before Jesus. He is studying the Bible with believers in his city, but he is still confused about how he can leave his Muslim-background. Dreams are important in his culture, but the decision to follow Jesus is hard…

Pizza! – It started as one chance meeting with a Buddhist monk from a Last Frontier area. An invitation to come over for dinner sparked a discussion about what kind of food the monk would like to try. The monk said, “I’ve heard of a food called pizza, but have never tried it.” Pizza was agreed upon, and when our worker went to pick up the monk he found that seven more monks wondered if they could come too…

Join us in praying for the workers of the Pacific Rim utilizing their personal stories from the best-selling “Voices of the Faithful” devotional book by Beth Moore. Experience the hurts and the happiness, the disappointment and the deliverance, and the fears and the faith of those who daily touch the rim of lostness with the light of God’s love. Battle with them in prayer for the souls of men and women throughout the Pacific Rim and thank God that “He is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” Join the battle, recognizing that in Christ, we are victorious. Read more ...

Welcome to the Pacific Rim regional web page.

Pacific Rim's web page exists to inform Southern Baptists about how God is working as they pray, give and go.

Pacific Rim region is home to 3,000 people groups, and over 800 million people. The Pacific Rim region includes the countries of Korea, Japan, all the countries of Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the nations of the South Pacific. The diversity in languages and cultures makes sharing the gospel a challenging task.

Our strategic priority is to engage the 350 unreached people groups of 100,000 or more population with the gospel. These peoples represent almost two-thirds of Pacific Rim’s population. Currently Southern Baptists are working among 200 of these people groups. However, that still leaves 150 large people groups with little witness among them.
